No, Holga isn't the name of a pretty Polish/Russian woman. "Holga" is a cheap, 120 film camera which generates unusual light streaks, distortions and vignetting due mainly to its simple construction.
Initially thought as a camera with quality problems have now since become the choice of photograph hobbyist around the world.
First i need to understand something about Holga, Lomo, Fisheye, Action Sampler etc. Thanks to Zoe (Zoe191.multiply.com) who kindly accompanied me in Hidalgo, Quiapo where i bought my own Holga for just over a thousand pesos, I was able to understand the difference between these cameras, + i got to learn to load the film properly as well haha.
I used to take pictures using films back in college. Especially during my mountaineering days at UST, although its quite expensive trying to develop the films afterwards i remember a sense of excitement everytime i would wait for the finished pictures of my roll of film.
In Holga photography, Zoe told me a cheaper alternative of developing your film, which is to develop 5 rolls of 120 film for only 200 plus and directly storing it into a CD as a hard copy therefore you can have your pictures stored in your file and give you the opportunity to only choose the best ones to print.
We took some shots at Quiapo yesterday. I remember having taken a few "multiple exposure" shots, not by designed but rather by forgetting to adjust the film counter. As Zoe suggests it might be a good thing so i can see the direct result of "multiple shots" in one frame.
Yeah, what better way to learn from the expert. I'm pretty sure Zoe is the first one here in Multiply Philippines (among my contacts) to practice the hobby of Lomo/Holga photography, I remember she started posting lomo/holga photographs way back 2004.
So there, I have a new hobby to kind of settle my mind and probably (and hopefully) away from the madness and other unsavory addiction that i used to indulge in.
